During summer, we often see vehicles parked in an external parking garage with windows or sunroof cracked open for air circulation.  However, have you ever wondered if this would actually help reducing the vehicle’s internal temperature?

We have discussed that Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH) or hot car deaths likely to occur during the hot summer months across the United States.  We have also identified how deadly the heat actually affects toddlers or babies within a few minutes.  Keep in mind that the toddler’s or baby’s internal temperature is higher than adult’s and that is one of the reasons why they are more susceptible to this deadly occurrence.  With internal vehicle’s temperature reaching 104 ̊F (40 ̊C) within a few minutes of time, the toddler or baby that was left in the vehicle will perish.

But what about leaving a crack in the window?

As demonstrated in the picture below, leaving a vehicle’s window or sunroof cracked may mitigate a few degrees cooler, but it does not lessen the effects of PVH at all.  In a recent 2021 study done by The Zebra on hot car deaths, the following alarming statistics below show how the general public view on the effectiveness on leaving a cracked window may or may not reduce the chances of PVH.

For the year 2021, the following statistics is as follows (population of the U.S: 336,997,624).  Documented PVH cases: 25.

  • 51.7% of respondents said cracking open a window does not lessen nor increase the threat of heatstroke to a potential victim inside a car (approximately 174,227,772 people)
  • 32.9% of respondents said cracking open a window does lessen the threat of heatstroke (approximately 110,872,218 people)
  • 15.5% of respondents said cracking open a window does not lessen the threat of heatstroke (approximately 52,234,632 people)

For the year 2020, the following statistics is as follows (population of the U.S: approximately 331,002,651). Documented PVH cases: 23.

  • 61.9% of people believed cracking open a window had no effect on the threat (approximately 204,890,565 people)
  • 24.8% of people believed cracking open a window would mitigate the threat (approximately 82,088,657 people)
  • 13.4% of people believed cracking open a window would eliminate the threat (approximately 44,354,355 people)

With this in mind educating the general public on the dangerous and deadly effects of PVH must be a priority.  When it comes to a human life, none should be risking a chance or taken for granted.  The editor had previously outlined some of the unfortunate reasons why PVH cases occur and how it can be prevented.  Some of the reasons why children are forgotten in vehicles are as follows:

  • Routine change
  • Distractions due to cellphone calls, bumping into friends, etc
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Children gained access to vehicles and being locked in it
  • Playing around vehicles
  • Parents running in to do a quick errand and eventually forgot them in a vehicle
  • Intentionally left in vehicles

As introduced before by the editor, there are simple products that are now available in the market today to remind parents not to leave their beloved ones in the backseat of their vehicles.  But there is only one comprehensive, and fool proof beta product available beta testing: The Ricket Innovation’s Baby Car Safe kit.

As a reminder we are in the process of looking for beta testers for this unique, innovative, and simple to install product.  Should you be interested to apply as a beta tester, please click on the following link: https://babycarsafe.com/betaappform/.

Our children are our future!  Therefore, as parents, we should love and protect our children no matter what the cost is.  Do not be one of the statistics aforementioned above and spread the word that no matter where you go, pay attention to your beloved ones, and do not ever leave them alone in vehicles.

On July 7th, 2014, Kyle Seitz was on the way to work and had his 15-month-old son Benjamin in the back seat of the car. However, Kyle did not veer off a turn towards child day care that morning. He was so in tuned to his habit of heading to work, that he had left his 15-month-old son in the vehicle after reaching his work place. It was a hot summer day with mid-day temperature soaring around 88 ̊ F (31 ̊C). According to police report, little Benjamin Seitz was not discovered until his father Kyle Seitz went to the day care at 6pm to pick him up. Benjamin was found lifeless in the backseat of the car and had already passed away due to Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH). Little Benjamin’s death counted the nineteenth PVH (aka Hot Car Death) incident case for that year.

The consequences of his actions led to countless hours of media attention, endless visits by Department of Childcare Services personnel, and numerous unknown threatening phone calls and emails. Against all odds, the couple continued to stay together as they still have two other daughters. More importantly, according to the wife Lindsey Rogers-Seitz, the two most important reasons as human beings are love and forgiveness.

Undoubtfully, to any mother or human being, it would be easy to leave Kyle Seitz for what he had done. However, this courageous couple picked up the pieces of what were left in their lives, and started a blog in order to remind others what they had learned that terrible day. From editor’s point of view, as a father myself, I cannot imagine what would be like to live in Kyle Seitz’s life after that day. We have covered the consequences of “guilt” on January 14th 2022 posting, and this could certainly consume someone psychologically.

Love and forgiveness do not certainly mean forgetting what happened to little Benjamin Seitz. It means giving unconditional mutual support, and continue to live their lives to provide for their two daughters. It signifies a new chapter of life for them where helping others may certainly bring back just a little bit of solace in their hearts. It gives new hope for the future in which they have learnt their lesson from that tragic day. As Lindsey Rogers-Seitz perfectly said during an interview: about that day, “It is much easier to forgive and love others, than to forgive and love yourself”. Never under-estimate how we, as human beings, act in any given moment of any given day. We cannot take anything for granted, especially when lives are at stake. The idea of “it will never happen to me” proved so many people were wrong. This is why we, The Rocket Innovation, set out two years ago to realize our innovative product, Baby Car Safe kit, to save lives and stop tragedies. With our intention to continue to look for beta testers, we cannot stress on the importance of making our beta version a production model available as soon as possible.

Each time a Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke happens, we often wonder what if the affected family had the Baby Car Safe kit, how different the outcome would be?

We urge everyone to continue support us and sign up to be our beta tester @ https://babycarsafe.com/betaappform/ Let us be part of a bigger picture and try to do good to this world: develop technology to save lives and make this world a better place!

On November 2021, Congress passed the Infrastructure and Jobs Act which included a mandate for action by U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) aimed to reduce hot car deaths (please refer to the link located at the end of this posting for additional information).

However, the U.S. DOT has not yet required occupant detection and alert systems minimizing these tragedies.  Currently, some form of occupant detection has been introduced, but no alert systems yet to as be finalized in the Act.  The national average for hot car deaths is at 38, yet these are only documented cases.  Sadly, these numbers could be higher as some cases were not accounted for.  See the following link below for additional details.

As shown in the picture below, of the 30 cases documented as hot car deaths, it is appalling that 21 cases or 70% are classified as either unknowingly left in vehicle or left child with circumstances not clear.  Last year, we discussed postings extensively for reasons why we are either distracted, or why we forget tasks which we should remember to do. More information on each of the hot car deaths, see the following link attached: 2022 Hot Car Deaths | KidsandCars.org.

As discussed in the posting for November 10th, 2021 we discovered some reasons why we may forget:

  • Cue dependent theory of forgetting: Information is stored in memory but can only be recalled by retrieval cues
  • Poor health condition and lack of sleep
  • Raise in emotion:  sudden spikes of emotional experience can make memory difficult to retrieval (blockage)
  • Retrieval failure memory theory:  common reason why we don’t remember is because it never made it to the long-term memory in the first place
  • Amnesia: inability to recall memories (retrograde: cannot remember before the trauma) or create new memories (anterograde: inability to create new memories after trauma).  Some may be due to neurological trauma

But how can we remind ourselves that we have a child or a toddler in the backseat of our vehicle when our lives are full of distractions?

Currently, traditional methods and simple technological gadgets are in place, but there are certain restrictions which only limit the effectiveness of the alert systems available today.  However, with the introduction of the Baby Car Safe Kit, no product in the market today can compare with what is available as a complete protection kit for your family.  As described in past two postings, we have thought of different scenarios so that you can be confident that this kit can be more suitable for you than others that are available today.

As a reminder, we are still looking for beta testers!  If you are interested in becoming a beta tester for an innovative product, please do not hesitate to log on our website link https://babycarsafe.com!

From all of us at The Rocket Innovation, we wish you all a happy and safe holiday season!

We are looking for beta testers!

Why beta testing?  Before any final production of a new and innovative product goes on the market shelves, there is a period when the pre-production product is released in limited amount so that a selected group of consumers are chosen to test the product.  The importance of this is understated as it may show any small bugs or improvements to be implemented before the final production model is introduced.

Some products in their last stage of pre-production will drastically change their design after the beta testing period has ended.  But for The Rocket Innovation’s first product, The Baby Car Safe kit, we have undergone countless hours of research and development, and the preproduction model is destined to be the official production model.  This testifies that the team is confident about our product, and we look forward to have you as a beta tester!

How to become a beta tester?

It is very easy to become a beta tester for our product, The Baby Car Safe Kit.  Once you have logged in to our website https://babycarsafe.com, in the middle of the landing page, there is a section displayed “Accepting Beta Testers now!”  (please see picture for illustrative purpose only below).  Click on the “Beta info” button and you will be directed to the information on the requirements and how to become a Beta tester for us.  Some of the following listed are highlights of becoming a beta tester for us.

  • Becoming a beta tester: tech savvy, curious, helpful consumers with a family including child or children can be perfect candidates for our beta testing selection.
  • Beta testers can perform normal function of the beta product, similar to any new tech product, such as unpacking, installation, perform tests and also complete a questionnaire so that we may better understand how this product can better fit to future users.
  • Please refer to compatible vehicles for reference as some vehicles are more preferred than others.

As previously discussed on previous two postings, The Baby Car Safe kit is the only pre-production kit in the market with proprietary technology such as SOS real time emergency technology, Geo-fencing capability, emergency escalating contact features provided in all-in-one product.  Hence, this product is offered at an attractive price of USD $299.

This special offer is limited time only and The Baby Car Safe Kit includes:

  • 6 months subscription plan worth USD $90 (USD $15 per month for six months).
  • Controller.
  • Baby Car Safe pad.
  • iOS software downloadable from the Apple app store.

Needless to say, once the production model price is finalized, the introductory price will no longer be offered.

From some of our earliest postings regarding hot car deaths to last week’s introduction of our beta testing production model, we have gone through a whole cycle of events leading up to our latest development: the Baby Car Safe kit.

We have also discovered some of the reasons why we are easily distracted, which led to tasks forgotten, and resulted in unfortunate accidents such as babies left in vehicles or toddlers gained unauthorized access to vehicles.  With the advent of the proprietary invention such as the Baby Car Safe kit, it will certainly assist parents to protect their most beloved: their children.  Let us rediscover three important aspects of hot car deaths which is underlined as the following:

  1. Babies or toddlers left in vehicles: With redundant features such as timed alarm on smart device and vehicle monitoring parameter system alerts, parents can rely on the Baby Car Safe kit to remind them that their baby or toddler is still in the backseat of their vehicle.
  2. Rapid EMS feature: With additional emergency contact feature embedded in our kit, not only can the user input emergency contact list to be called, but emergency services will send help to locate vehicle through GPS system to rescue forgotten children if needed.
  3. Unauthorized access to vehicle:  We also have discovered in previous posts that there were documented cases when children gained access to vehicle keys and accidentally locked themselves in it for a long period of time.  Along with the application installed on the user smart device, parent(s) can receive push notifications and alarms notifying them that someone has gained access to their vehicle.  In conjunction with geofencing and GPS features, parent(s) will be notified of their unauthorized access of vehicle, which has either left their preset area such as home or work locations.  In addition, with GPS location capability, they can inform emergency personnel such as local police force the exact location of their vehicle.

Together, the Baby Car Safe kit, can provide the ultimate protection tool parent(s) has been searching for.  The ready to download application on the smart device, the soft and durable car pad, the intuitive and easy to use vehicle parameter monitoring dongle system, and all the services that come with it can give parent(s) a peace of mind no matter where they travel to.  We, at The Rocket Innovation, thought of all the preventative measures to let parent(s) focus on what they should be, instead of being distracted or forgot their most beloved: their children.

For the past few postings, we have talked about the components that has made our product unique and innovative.  Now that we have a definite pre-production beta product confirmed, we would like to introduce to everyone our baby seat pad.

Outer shell:  Our baby seat pad, which is placed between the baby itself and on top of the car seat, is of course our main character of the product.  With its sleek, clean lines, one look at the product will certainly catch buyers’ attention.  The outer shell is made up of two separate materials.  The top half consists of cloth material, which can be cleaned easily should there be any accidental mess made, while the bottom half is consisted of high-quality leather.  The circumference of the product is wrapped around with a zipper so that it can be taken off for cleaning purposes.

Easy fit slit:  The slit that is located between the top half and the lower half of the pad itself is made to allocate the safety belt’s buckle of your baby cat seat.  This way, no matter how your baby or toddler moves, the pad itself is securely placed in the right place on the baby car seat.

Inner foam:  While the outer durable shell protects the inner foam, the foam itself is also made up of long-lasting material for the baby’s comfort. Along side the foam itself, there are also thin film pressure sensors that detect the baby’s weight which then will then relay the signal to the vehicle monitoring parameter system detecting that there is a baby in the vehicle.

Sensor pressure pads and battery:  The inner workings of the pad are quite unique but yet elegant.  With the pad constantly monitoring baby’s weight and communicating with the monitoring system, power supply is crucial.  This is why we designed to use rechargeable battery with an USB cable to provide additional life span of the pad itself.  With this combination, the buyer will have a true plug and play product that will accompany his/her toddler for a long period of time.

Knowing that we have a product that is durable, intuitive, smart, easy to use, and innovative, will certainly assist and provide a peace of mind for all of our buyers.  We have undergone countless hours of research and development to come to this point, and we also understand what parents require for current technological based products.  Most important of all, we are also parents ourselves, which we know that nothing comes first then the safety of our children.  The less we have to worry about in our lives can mean more time spent with our children and rest of our family.

When the idea for this product first came about, our co-founder Tracey Roberts wanted a product that would not only prevent babies and toddlers from facing great danger, but also a product of paramount significance.  To achieve this, he decided to pair the Baby Car Safe product with emergency response services so that it would provide redundant prevention system.  In addition, emergency response personnel could locate and could further provide assistance if necessary.

Once the user has finished with setting up his/her Baby Car Safe product, the user would be registered to use an emergency response service company that would be able to receive alerts and send Police or First Responder to the scene for further assistance.  Unlike other similar products in which they only rely on Bluetooth transmission, Baby Car Safe product uses an escalation of alerts and alarms messages to registered emergency contacts and emergency services via cellular data plan so that it is more reliable and much safer.  Baby Car Safe product intends to have no messages go unanswered.

Integrating the Emergency Services capability significantly improve the safety level in preventing children from being left unattended in the vehicle. This also addresses the second most common hot car death cases which may lead to kids locking themselves in the vehicle without parents’ supervision. Parents are alerted of unauthorized access to their vehicle and these alerts are escalated to emergency services if the parents fail to respond to the alerts.

Every second counts when lives are dependent on First Responders to arrive at the scene and have the ability to locate the correct vehicle, that’s why Baby Car Safe’s product initial set up process is crucial.  The vehicle’s basic information such as type and model of the vehicle, color, plate number are needed during the set-up process.  This way, when First Responders approach the scene, they will be able to reduce the time to locate the right vehicle and proceed to rescue the endangered baby or toddler.  Every life is important, no matter how old, what gender, or which ethnicity is the baby or toddler.  As Larry Barretto (American Novelist, May 1890 – Dec 1971) would say “Babies are bits of stardust, blown from the hand of God”.

In previous postings, we have discovered some safety tips that we should practice daily, but sometimes we take it for granted as we drive to run errands daily with our baby or toddler in the back seat.  No matter what we do, we should always practice defensive driving at all times.  Here are some tips that many drivers may not know about defensive driving.

  • Readjusting your sideview mirrors:  From the editor’s experience, sideview mirrors are critical part of driving.  Even though there are blind spot detection systems in newer vehicles installed as standard equipment, relying on line of sight is still one of the most basic rules of driving.  Blind spot detection systems may warn you that a vehicle may be very close to your vehicle, but it may not work if the incoming vehicle is far away but rapidly closing in towards your blind spot.  Always try to adjust the angles of the sideview mirrors as far away from the vehicle as possible so there is a greater viewing angle for both sides.
  • Driving during a blowout tire:  While we may naturally push the brake pedal in order to gain control while we experience a blowout tire incident, it may not be as safe as you think.  Pushing the brake pedal too quickly and too hard during a blowout may cause the vehicle to fishtail.  At that point the driver may lose control and turn a salvageable incident into a bigger accident.  With this in mind, when a driver experiences a blowout, he/she should keep the vehicle in the same lane, slowly let off the acceleration pedal, look both ways before heading towards the slow lanes in order to pull over.
  • Driving in extreme weather such as snow or heavy rain:  It is never fun to drive in extreme weather conditions, but if it is needed, then going slow is the name of the game.  Always, allow double the time to travel from the point of origin to the destination and never try to take over vehicles if the are too slow.  In situations where a vehicle may spin out of control, do not try to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of your spin.  If the vehicle is spinning clockwise, turn with the vehicle as this may be better to stop the vehicle in the end.  Always try to pump or tap the brake pedal instead of pushing it all the way.  This may cause the vehicle to lose control even more if the brake pedal is pushed too hard and too fast.
  • Distraction:  As previous posting had already covered this topic, the driver should never be distracted at all times.  Keeping your eyes on the road is key to defensive driving.  Taking your eyes off the road for just one second may lead to horrific accidents.  It may be hard to be focused when you have a little one in the backseat, but remember, you are in control.
  • Road Rage:  It is everywhere.  Sometimes trying to stay calm when being tailgated is tough, but remembering that you are in control of other people’s lives should precede over anything else.  Back away or move to the slower lane to let danger pass you by is the best thing to do.  Never gamble or continue to taunt dangerous drivers as you may end up losing more than expected.
  • Keep up with vehicle’s routine maintenance:  Skipping out or delaying scheduled routine maintenance may be hazardous to the integrity of the vehicle, especially if your vehicle may be older than other newer vehicles.  It may seem to the consumer that routine maintenance is costly, but it may end up costing more if your vehicle is not maintained properly if it could have been prevented.

We may trust ourselves to be a safe driver, but never trust others who you may not know.  Taking the safe approach is always the better way than risking your life and others in order to save a few minutes by driving fast or recklessly.  Respecting life of yourself and others may be the better choice.  After all, losing a life due to reckless driving may cause more than a few paychecks.

For the past few weeks, we have introduced two important features that will be included in the Baby Car Safe product which will be available in the near future.  But, in the editor’s opinion what sets the product apart from others is one of the two most pertinent components yet to be seen in a similar product, and that is the Vehicle Parameter Monitoring System.

This system, unparalleled to any on the market today, will inform the user current vehicle parameters after initial setup and the following are some of the benefits it provides.

  • GPS real time location:  With the use of any smart phone, the user will be able to locate where the vehicle is with accuracy.  As we have discussed in our previous posting, GPS is essential to our everyday use.  With this feature, the user can locate if the vehicle is either stolen or if the user has forgotten where it is parked.
  • Unauthorized usage of vehicle notification:  This important aspect will inform the user if any unauthorized user(s) has somehow gained access to the vehicle.  As Baby Car Safe is developing to include Bluetooth and cellular data plan, no vehicle will be too far from receiving notification on the user’s smart phone.  With this feature, user can also monitor if any children accidentally unlock the vehicle for additional safety.
  • Vehicle Parameter Monitoring System:  As the name indicates, the user will be able to see on his/her smart phone the current vehicle status including: seatbelt activation, driving status, gear selection, door opening or closing alerts, baby seat activation alert, and others.  The more the user is informed about his/her vehicle status, the better the user is prepared for any unforeseen incidents.  In certain circumstances, if the user does not remove the infant located in the rear passenger seat at a specific time frame, the user will receive notifications as well on his/her smart phone.
  • Emergency Response Services:  As we will be covering this feature in greater detail on our next post, this is yet another pertinent safety feature which sets Baby Car Safe product apart from similar products offered today.  With redundant protocols, this feature will assist the emergency services to contact emergency contacts if the primary user is unable to be reached.  This important feature enhances the safety net for the user and his/her family members so that any unfortunate incidents may be reduced.

Each day, our lives are filled with schedules and tasks from the moment we open our eyes to the moment we arrive at home from work.  When it comes to parenthood, there is rarely time to forget what is the most important aspect in our lives: our children.  Therefore, no matter what we do, safety always come first. We hope to build a product that will make our lives more efficient, easier, and safer.  Baby Car Safe provides users with that and so much more.  More details to follow in the next coming weeks!
